did you read all the comments listed for the "eccentric" performance? She certainly has a loyal fan base

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty surprising -- at first I thought the comments were jokes, then I thought everyone who left them was as crazy as she was. I guess you're right that she has a loyal fan base. Or at least an eccentric fan base. She actually is a really accomplished pianist. BTW, she died a few years ago.
So I ended up searching for some Swedish Chef clips after the Beaker one. What a show that was.

Picked up the Barefoot Natives CD and am really enjoying it. PKampp has credibility!
Meanwhile, I listened to the new Matt Costa CD (he plays with Jack Johnson) and it sounds good. Here's a link to his myspace page, which features a cool music video shot around SF and the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk.

Okay, I finally purchased the Matt Costa (am enjoying it) and the new Jack Johnson. Believe it or not, I have not unwrapped the new Jack yet -- gotta get our stereo set up in the new place first. I'll report back once I take a listen. But I did notice that the record was recorded using 100% solar energy.

Jack has been unwrapped. Sleep Through The Static is what Jack calls the album -- he could have called it Sleep Through This Album. It's extremely mellow and only features a few upbeat tunes. If you like the Bubble Toes kind of Jack, this won't do it. But the songs have grown on me after a couple listens. There's a few gems, like the two singles (If I Had Eyes and Sleep Through The Static), and I like Angel even though it's Exhibit B in how incredibly whipped Jack is (Exhibit A being "Better Together"). You can almost hear the whip crack after he sings "we share the same soul -- oh oh oh oh." So casual Jack fans, you can skip this one. Die hards -- you have no choice anyway so you'll have to go out and buy it.

I purchased Vampire Weekend on a whim and am loving it. It's really interesting upbeat music with Afropop and ska influences. The songs are really catchy but like nothing I've heard before. I'd highly recommend at least listening to them on youtube or their website.

Just started listening to "Band of Horses". I think they have been getting a lot of press...how else would I have heard of them? Anyways, I really like the tunes. The first album is good, but I definitely prefer the second. The sound is, imho, somewhere between Coldplay and Weezer...but that covers a lot of ground.
Also just heard a song by "She and Him" on the radio(why don't you let me stay here?) the other day and then checked it out on the internet, can't wait to get that CD. If you go to their Myspace there is some strange dialogs playing underneath the music that isn't on the recordings...kind of creepy.

Here's a new old discovery. We just went to see the stage version of Green Day's "American Idiot" 2004 album at Berkeley Rep. I was blown away. I picked up the CD a few days ago to prep myself, and I can't stop listening to it. I always thought Green Day was cutesy-punk, but listening to it this time I realize how melodic Billie Joe's vocals are. Turns out he grew up singing Broadway tunes, which is probably why he has such a gift for crafting really pretty vocal melodies. Plus, the lyrics, supremely political, are really engaging. Big thumbs up.
